Oprah Winfrey for President? A Human Design Perspective.
True confession, I watched the Oprah Winfrey Show every single day for a good ten years of my life. My love for this woman runs deep because she was absolutely of service to me. I truly believe this is and was her intention; to be of service.
Things are hard right now. The negative tone that has been established by our current President has truly created a fissure in this country. We as citizens no longer have any sense of trust in each other. Everything is now cast in a jaundiced, cynical light. Every day we wake up to more bad news, much of it peppered with very negative, poor treatment of one other.
So in the context of a very loaded Golden Globes where everyone in attendance wore black out of respect for the recent revelations of systemic abuse and persecution of women in the industry, and also in light of the existence of a sitting president who has been accused of the very worst treatment of women (up to and including rape), out walked this shining light of a woman who broke the situation down in the most glorious, hopeful terms.
If anyone can spin the current negative climate into an opportunity for positive change, it’s Oprah Winfrey. I’m not going to lie, I openly wept during her speech.
We as a society are so thirsty for a positive message and spiritual insight it came as no surprise the next day and in the days going forward, Oprah was being called out to run for President.
As a Human Design specialist, this came as no surprise to me either because Oprah Winfrey has the chart of someone who has been and will be called out for her talents (conscious line 2).
The question is, are these the talents of a United States President?
There is no denying this is the chart of someone who intuitively knows what people need to hear. She is extremely sensitive to other people’s needs (gate 19) and is uniquely qualified to tell the very intimate stories (gate 33) of the past (gate 44) so that we may come to understand how and why we are so hard on each other (gate 24). She is driven to empower others (gate 34) to improve themselves and does so by imparting a simple understanding of what is right and wrong (gate 49) on a very human level but also on a very spiritual level as well.
When she was younger, her life’s focus was on telling people’s stories (gate 56) and going into the kind of detail (gate 62) necessary to create incremental, positive change in people’s lives. At this stage in her life however, she is more interested in really diving deep into the great mysteries of the universe (gate 61) to create responsible change with the resources at hand (gate 60).
But this is also the stage in her life where she is focused on being of service.
Now she has of course been doing that in her own way. But I could see her considering a presidential run if she felt she could be of service. I think we can all agree that someone running for president to actually be of service is a refreshing thought.
Having a president who has the gift of channeling the message we need to hear (gate 12/open throat) when we as a society need to hear it (gate 32) would be a blessing for us all.
But I don’t think she will run. This is not the chart of a power hungry leader. While she does have ambition (gate 54) in her Chiron, this very placement is an indication that letting ambition take the lead in her life would be ultimately unhealthy and I’m pretty sure she knows this about herself at this point in her life. This is not a path she would choose for herself. I also don't think it would be healthy for someone so very sensitive to other people's needs (conscious sun in gate 19) to be President of the United States.
Oprah Winfrey needs to come from a more intimate space of service than politics and her focus on sharing spirituality (gate 61) with the world is more in line with the life path indicated by her chart.
This is not to say that we as a society don’t need more empowering (gate 34), inspiring speeches (gate 12/open throat) from Oprah Winfrey. It is my hope that she lends us this talent in any circumstance possible. She has never been particularly political and this is in line with her chart, but it is clear that we are in a very unique time in history. So I hope she does recognize this and will make speeches for the right candidate or when circumstances allow. We need to hear her powerful (gate 34), unifying message as often as possible right now.
Women in particular need to hear her unifying message so that we can come together and vote for what is right in this world. If Oprah has taught us anything over the years, it’s that when we work together we really do have the power.
