Welcome to FANTASY ISLAND!

The sun has now moved into Gate 41, FANTASY, also known as IMAGINATION. In I-Ching this hexagram is called DECREASE. 

Gate 41 marks the start of the Human Design year. This is the energy for FANTASY and it goes both ways. People with FANTASY defined in their chart may find themselves lost in various versions of their life and they sometimes fail to mention these scenarios to the other people involved. Needless to say hilarity ensues. That said, they also find themselves to be the object of someone else's FANTASY because all of these energies really do go both ways. But these individuals have the unique ability to creatively IMAGINE various outcomes in their lives. But most really must be careful not to act on these FANTASIES. It's important to sit back and wait for right timing. The very act of IMAGINING however can energetically create the opportunities they seek.

What does this mean for you? Well isn't it also grand to now have access to the power for FANTASY when you are thinking about the new year? Allow yourself to really go there in your mind and IMAGINE all the various outcomes of your choices right now. Let your mind go wild and then simply relax and let it go. This just might draw some pretty spectacular opportunities your way.    

In the meantime, please do make sure you are clearly communicating your expectations with others during this time because these FANTASIES can seem absolutely real in the moment. This is that time you'll swear you told this person this or the other when you in fact did no such thing.

The Sun now moves into Gate 60, ACCEPTANCE, also known as RESOURCEFULNESS. In I-Ching this energy is called LIMITATION.  

There is a bit of a mixed message with this energy. On one hand, it is coming from a place of holding on to old ways of doing things. On the other hand, this energy does want to innovate. It is indeed mutative. But only in a way that is respectful to the old ways and carries the wisdom of why the old ways work. So in a way it is ACCEPTING the LIMITS of the traditional foundation in a RESOURCEFUL manner that moves toward innovation.

This is methodical innovation. In other words, don’t fix what isn’t broken; respectfully, methodically improve it.

People with this energy can be perceived as stuck in their ways and, without awareness, there can be a tendency to be a bit fixed about things. But this is the person who will be the voice of reason in the room when we enthusiastically want change for changes sake. They will hold the process back until they are sure the change is in fact necessary and is indeed an improvement.

Innovation is important, but one must be careful to first do no harm.

Not everyone agrees with that statement in the current climate. There is a sense of enthusiasm right now on many fronts for throwing out the old ways out and starting fresh. A lot of this energy for radical change is very good for society, some of it not so much.  

Thank goodness for those of us who have the innate respect for how things are to ensure we go about this change in a manner that utilizes the wisdom of the past so that we indeed hold on to what does work.  

So what does this mean for you in the coming days? Use this time to review what is and is not working in your life. Take advantage of this somewhat conservative energy to plan exactly how you can make incremental changes to steer things in the right direction in the coming year.

So start that self-improvement project. Improve your life! But let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater, OK?

The Sun has now moved into Gate 61, MYSTERY, also known as WONDER. In I-Ching this hexagram is known as INNER TRUTH.

This is the energy for thinking about the great MYSTERIES of the universe. People who have this energy defined in their birth chart are often fascinated by the occult; generally anything unknowable. Located at the very top of the chart in the center where inspiration resides, the Gate of MYSTERY is seeking the answers to why we are here. Divine inspiration resides in the Head Center. One can certainly entertain themselves for hours with these kinds of thoughts but whether or not they lead to anything definitive is another thing altogether; it is really not the point. 

If someone with this energy thinks they are supposed to solve these great MYSTERIES, they could inevitably feel a sense of dejection or failure. They might feel a wee bit of melancholy due to some of the subject matter sure, but also due to the loneliness involved with being fascinated by the great MYSTERIES of life when the people around them are not. It is certainly not easy to be considered odd or strange by others. As with all projected energy, it helps to wait for the invitation to talk about these subjects. Otherwise, people often think they are strange. 

There is a knowingness to this energy that cannot be simply explained. There is no proof. But that is the point. There is no need for proof. There is indeed WONDER in that.

If you are not one of the lucky souls who have this compelling connection to all things MYSTERIOUS defined, now is the time to ponder what the universe has in store for us. Allow yourself to get lost in thought. Is there indeed a divine order to things? If so, what is the purpose of the current state of the world? What part, if any must we take in this narrative to help humanity?

Of course these are my questions, not yours. Allow inspiration to strike and ponder the great MYSTERIES of this world and the next. Have fun with these deep thoughts.

Just please do me a favor and try to concentrate on driving when you're driving, OK? Navigate your body through space. Hmm, that makes me think about space...

The Sun has now traveled to Gate 54, DRIVE; also known as AMBITION. In I-Ching, this energy is called THE MARRYING MAIDEN.

People with AMBITION defined have a very potent part of the EGO Circuit in Human Design. This is the energy for doing whatever it takes to get ahead. This energy also has within it the aspiration to ascend to a singular vision.

To be perfectly honest I have a somewhat tenuous grasp on this energy. This kind of AMBITION and DRIVE is simply not in my Design. There is a deep reluctance to disappoint myself (oh hey open ego center) and more importantly an outright refusal to be disappointed by others (oh hey line 4). In the past I have preferred to limit my expectations and find myself pleasantly surprised by life. It has actually worked pretty well for me. I think I intuitively knew that my journey has always been to respond to opportunities that present themselves to me. So AMBITIOUSLY planning my future felt fruitless and sorry, a bit icky.

With study of course I now know that allowing myself to think about what I want (gulp) will actually magnetize the opportunity to me.    

Therefore with the awareness that DRIVE and AMBITION are now accessible to me, I plan to take time in the next five days to actually think about, dare I say visualize what I want to accomplish during 2018. Hoo boy, just the word vision is putting me off. That isn't in my chart either. Maybe I'll listen to music that inspires AMBITION within me and represents what I want. This should be fun.  

But how magical is it that we have access to DRIVE and AMBITION right at the beginning of the new year? As my teacher Karen Curry Parker is fond of saying (and I'm paraphrasing of course), we all have everything in the chart, both through our connections with other people and through the transits.     

So with that in mind, what if you allowed yourself to really meditate on naked AMBITION for you and your family during the next 5 days? What would you discover? Better yet, what would you energetically draw to yourself if given the opportunity? Try allowing yourself to create an AMBITIOUS vision for 2018.   

Then sit back and see what opportunities present themselves to you and yours in the coming year (unless you're a Manifestor. If you're a Manifestor, just go do it).

Just in time for the New Year, the Sun now moves into Gate 38, THE FIGHTER, also known as OPPOSITION in I-Ching. 

In its highest expression, this is the energy for FIGHTING for HONOR. But of course it could also just be the energy to FIGHT. Many with this energy have trouble valuing something in their life if they have not fought tooth and nail for it. They are energized by the FIGHT.

This transiting energy is a wonderful opportunity to FIGHT for what you believe in. Make that phone call you've been trying to get the nerve up to make to your representative. Go out and participate in a protest. Speak out loud and defend what you deem deserving of your energy to FIGHT this week.    

Also, if you generally find it difficult to deal with confrontation, this may be one of those few times you find you have the energy to deal with a nagging interpersonal issue head on. So do it, but don't over compensate by being too aggressive. Calmly ask if you can address something important and wait for the other party to invite you to continue (this is projected energy after all). Then address your issue directly. You have the energy now to FIGHT for your position.

So seize this opportunity to FIGHT for what is right for you and while you're at it, observe how the world doesn't collapse when you FIGHT for what you need. Maybe, just maybe, this will give you the experience and confidence to do a little more FIGHTING for yourself during the rest of the year.

Oh hello there, it's the Holidays and the Sun has moved into Gate 58, JOY. This is not a drill. Go ahead and allow yourself to feel the JOY of the moment.

As we are hopefully with our families at this time, we can either focus on imperfections, or we can focus on the true JOY of being in the presence of the people we love; for better or worse.

People either choose JOY or they do not and it is no different for those that have JOY defined in their charts. But this energy is available to us all right now if we can just go ahead and accept it.

I for one am wishing you JOY, now and always.

The Sun has now moved into Gate 10, LOVE OF SELF or in I Ching, TREADING. Located in the place where love resides on the chart, this energy is the LOVE of YOURSELF.

In our culture here in the United States, this can be a loaded concept. You can love yourself I guess but you can't be full of yourself. "Don't get a big head," is a notion drummed into us at an early age; at least when I was growing up. Many kids today are getting a different message which some people might question but I think it's great. Confidence goes a long way in our culture. Why not give your kid a leg up? They'll learn the hard way, just like we all do, what they are good at and what they're not so good at. But at least they'll start the process with a healthy bit of love for themselves. 

But I digress. This Gate of LOVE OF SELF is often called the BUDDHA gate. It is the embodiment of self empowerment in its best iteration. So much so, people around this energy will feel more empowered for having witnessed it. The highest expression of SELF LOVE is showing people, by example, how to love themselves. Isn't that marvelous? 

The low expression of LOVE OF SELF however is playing the victim, often blaming others for their failings. When things go wrong, it is always someone else's fault. This is why Gate 10 can also be lovingly referred to as the BLAME gate.  

Now I really should warn you that some of us with a specific configuration connecting this energy to our throat this week may find ourselves blurting out some pretty terrible things to some poor soul who happens to be on the receiving end of that blame. Often when this happens, we're just as shocked as the other person. It really feels like it came out of nowhere. People who normally have this configuration understand this all too well. Awareness is key. If you find yourself having biting, blaming thoughts, use caution. Think before you speak. Stop and ask yourself, "does this person really deserve the blame here? Am I taking responsibility for what is mine?"   

That said, with the energy for LOVE OF SELF readily available to you this week, try to give yourself a little tender loving care in the midst of all this Holiday madness. But also take this opportunity to really think about LOVE OF SELF. Do you take care of yourself during the rest of the year? Do you treat yourself with love and respect? Do you give yourself the same benefit of a doubt, love, and compassion you give to others?

Good questions right?

Transiting December 14 through December 19th, 2017

The Sun has now moved into Gate 11, IDEAS. In I-Ching this hexagram is called PEACE. So yes, this is the energy for having wonderful, brilliant, and sometimes not so brilliant IDEAS.

What is interesting about this energy however is these IDEAS are most likely not for ourselves. There is no configuration here for making these IDEAS happen. Many people with this energy defined often feel like their IDEAS are stolen by other people. This can cause feelings of betrayal and bitterness but what they are failing to realize is this is exactly how the IDEA is supposed to work. 

So much of the Human Design chart reveals how we need each other to accomplish things in this world. With this particular energy we are meant to have an IDEA and if someone else with the right configuration responds to that idea, they are meant to act on it.

So with this energy transiting right now, you very well might have some truly spectacular IDEAS. If you want those IDEAS to go anywhere, tell your IDEAS to anyone who is open to hearing them. Your mission if you choose to accept it is to pass the IDEA along. 

There is a timing piece to this of course. In order for someone to be open to hearing about your IDEA, tell them you have an IDEA and wait for them to invite you to share it. This is human nature is it not? None of us wants to be told something about something without our permission. Do what it takes to get the message across effectively.

Then this is where the magic lies. In a way, you are casting a spell. Just understand, what happens next is out of your control.

Transiting December 9 through 13, 2017

The sun has now moved into Gate 26, THE TRICKSTER, or ACCUMULATION. In I-Ching this hexagram is called The Taming Power of the Great. 

This is the energy to close the sale; the impetus to say anything, do anything to finalize the deal.

OK I'm just going to go ahead and say it. THE TRICKSTER gets a bad rap, because it can be associated with lying and deception. This is the low expression of this energy of course. Our own esteemed president here in the United States has the moon in Gate 26 at the time of his birth. He is driven to close the sale, so to speak.  

On the other hand, many people with this energy are absolute champions of the truth. They intuitively know if they allow themselves to tell a white lie here or there, their grasp on the truth very well may be tenuous. So as a result they are brutally honest and downright appalled by dishonesty.

There's a happy medium here. This energy is placed in our chart (spoiler alert, we all have it, it is transiting right now) for us to examine our own relationship with the truth. To master THE TRICKSTER, we must master INTEGRITY. How do we get what we need in this life without compromising our INTEGRITY?

THE TRICKSTER is tribal energy after all, so this energy actually comes from a place of providing for our loved ones. The motivation is pure. With that in mind, it's easy to rationalize a white lie here or there in order to feed our loved ones. But it is our responsibility to maintain our integrity while still providing for our loved ones. 

So how does this affect me you ask? Well, if you need to close the deal on any opportunities you have out there, now is the time to do it. We have the capacity to intuitively say or do what's necessary to make it happen, to get the buy in, to make the sale. Just remember to have enough faith in your abilities to do this without compromising your integrity OK?

We all have to love and respect ourselves in the morning.

The Sun has now moved into Gate 5, PATTERNS. In the I-Ching this Hexagram is called WAITING. This energy is all about the rhythm of nature and the rhythm of our lives. It is the comfort of ritual; knowing that at certain times of the day or week, certain things will happen and if this is so, all is right with the world.

The other side of this coin is being terribly thrown if our coffee is not made just so, at the right time of our morning; it can really ruin our day! People with this energy defined simply need a consistent pattern to our daily life or we will feel off kilter and unsettled. People without this energy defined may perceive this as strange. Worse, those of us with the energy may judge ourselves too harshly for the difficulty we experience in bouncing back from a disruption in our pattern. Awareness is key.

The next time you are feeling anxious and unsettled and you don't understand why, ask yourself, is my day or week off schedule? Maybe the simple answer is you have this energy defined. If so take a deep breath, acknowledge your need for patterns, and give yourself a break from any self-judgement surrounding this. Chances are, the feeling will dissipate.           

Animals are this way naturally, they need their schedule, and those of us with this energy relate very well to the rhythm of nature and to the rhythm our animals. We get it. We certainly don't judge them for it. The daily pattern that we can count on makes us feel safe and sound. What could possibly be wrong with that?

So with the energy for PATTERNS in the air this week, get cozy with your schedule. Embrace the comfort of it and be present for the ritual of it. It is something concrete to hold on to during these strange times and also quite apropos during the Holiday Season. Part of the joy we experience from the Holidays is the consistent ritual of it all and that is very comforting indeed. 

Transiting, November 27 through December 2, 2017

The sun has now moved into Gate 9, FOCUS. The hexagram in I-Ching is called THE TAMING POWER OF THE SMALL. So just like the name, this is the energy to FOCUS. It is the power to concentrate but without its counterpart gate 52, STILLNESS, it is not necessarily the power to concentrate for long periods of time. Even so, most people with this energy tend to think about something while they're doing other things anyway because they simply can't stop thinking about it. I call this energy for thinking about something and not being able to let it go the snag and loop. If you let it, this snag and loop can turn into obsessive thinking. One thing I find helpful with ye olde snag and loop is Bach Flower Remedies, most specifically Rescue Sleep. It doesn't sedate you, it simply helps stop the obsessive thinking that keeps you up at night. If I had the gate of FOCUS, I wouldn't hesitate to use it during the day.

That said, there is something wonderful about being able to focus on something without distraction. If you generally have issues with focus, now is the time to access this energy. What is it in your life that needs focus right now? Get in there and concentrate while the concentrating is good. Just try not to obsess about it.

The Sun now moves into Gate 34, POWER. In I-Ching this is called POWER OF THE GREAT. This is a remarkable energy of power in response. Once you set it off, watch it go! 

People with this energy defined in their chart are fast, busy, multi-tasking power houses of energy. IF they're not burned out which can often be the case if they have lived a lifetime of pushing instead of waiting to respond with this energy. Burn out aside, it is important to understand that these folks need to do more than one thing at a time regardless of what society tells them. Having to focus on one thing all the time is pretty much straight up torture. Don't make them!

True confession, I have this Gate defined in my Sun, so you're basically hearing a cry for help here.    

Fun fact, if defined with Gate 20, METAMORPHOSIS, this is also the archetype of the MANIFESTING GENERATOR; basically the Julie (from Love Boat, AKA Cruise director) of the Human Design TYPES.

Transiting, November 16 through 21, 2017

The Sun is now in Gate 14, POWER SKILLS. Some call this Gate PROSPERITY and I can see why. In I-Ching it is called POSSESSION IN GREAT MEASURE. You can see where this is going. 

This is the energy for utilizing your skills to work for the abundance you need in life. This is not blind faith that money will be drawn to you energetically. That is in other parts of the chart. This particular energy is the skill and capacity to do what you need to do to be comfortable. To be clear though, it works best in response to the opportunity to work. 

Whenever I see this defined in someone's chart I know they are probably doing OK financially. They typically, consistently have the capacity to work for money in their life. This energy comes directly from the center of workforce energy after all. 

Gate 14 is a wonderful blessing, but it can sometimes result in someone being financially successful at a J-O-B they do not particularly like. There lies the rub. What is important to note however is this would most likely be the case with whatever they J-O-B they chose. But it is a reminder to make the decision enter into opportunities correctly, with the right Strategy and Authority according to Type.   

But what does this mean for those of us who do not have this energy defined? I wish I could say the Sun in Gate 14 means money will drop from the sky but I can't. Sorry guys! But it certainly is the opportunity to meditate on this energy for working for what you need when you need it. 

The theme for this week is taking care of your business. This is a very capable energy. Not a bad energy to have during the run up to Thanksgiving here in the US.

Transiting, November 11 through November 15, 2017

The Sun now moves into Gate 43, INSIGHT. So the theme for this week will be about seeing things in new, insightful ways.

Be careful though, expressing these insights hinge entirely on correct timing. This is part of the channel lovingly referred to as Genius to Freak which actually helps illustrate the importance of timing. Blabbing your insights without invitation often results in resistance in other people. To be frank, it often comes off as you telling them something about something [insert eye roll here]. Wait for invitation however and your insight may be received by others as a stroke of pure genius! Simply asking, "I may have some insight, would you like to hear about it," will change the dynamic of the conversation entirely.

Human Design teaches us that having a brilliant thought in your head and acting on it rarely turns out well. But sharing and discussing that special INSIGHT when the timing is correct may allow others to respond to the idea and act on it in an energetically sublime way. 

The gate of INSIGHT is understandably one of the ALONE gates. It contains the energy to be lost in our own thoughts. Time alone is essential because you need to concentrate to make that breakthrough. Also, let's face it, people who are in their head are not the greatest listeners.

So if you find yourself a bit lost in thoughts, enjoy it. Also, if someone you care about isn't listening to you, gently touching them on their shoulder will help pull them out of their head.     

Transiting, November 5 through 10, 2017

The Sun has now moved into Gate 1, SELF-EXPRESSION. This is a really potent energy that needs to express itself creatively. The people I know with this energy become very dissatisfied with every thing in their life if they are not expressing themselves creatively. It can be very anxiety producing to the point where it will keep them up at night wondering what special, creative thing they should be doing.

So you may find yourself wondering if what you're doing with your life is enough. But any endeavor can be approached in a creative way, no?

Use this energy over the next 6 days in a productive way. Get crafty for the holidays. Decorate your house for fall/Thanksgiving. Go to one of those events where you drink wine and paint on canvas. If any opportunity to get creative crosses your path, go for it. It will feel especially satisfying this week.   

Transiting, October 31 through November 4, 2017

The Sun is now in Gate 44, PRESENTATION. In I-Ching this is called COMING TO MEET and in this sense it is the energy for making things nice and greeting a visitor. It is also the energy to bring lessons from the past to the present. It is the Gate for an intuitive sense of smell as well. Meaning a smell might trigger a sense of danger for example. Think of the phrase "I smell a rat." This is also a Gate off the Spleen which means we are dealing with a fear of the past. So there might be an inclination for ignoring the past or making it seem nicer or more pleasant than it actually was. OR it can mean being stuck in the past and unable to let it go.

So the theme during this time is PRESENTATION. It would actually be a good time for inviting people over and hosting. I have this Gate defined and I do love to make it nice and be the host with the most. I'm also a sucker for an idealized version of the past. My house certainly reflects that.

Transiting, October 25 through 30, 2017

The Sun moves into the Gate 28, STRUGGLE. Some prefer to call this gate TENACITY or ADVENTURE. Either way, it's not easy. When you're playing a video game, you have to STRUGGLE to get to the next level. Gamers enjoy this aspect of the game. Someone I know with this Gate defined in their chart once told me they only value something if it is difficult to get. Such is the nature of this energy. It doesn't have to be considered a bad thing to STRUGGLE. It's certainly not boring.   

So STRUGGLE is the theme for this time period. Things are not going to be easy. This too shall pass (in 6 days) so I suggest embracing the STRUGGLE. If you do not have this Gate defined in your chart, allow yourself to experience the extra satisfaction derived from succeeding despite the STRUGGLE.

Choose your own ADVENTURE.  

Transiting, October 19 through 24, 2017

The Sun is in Gate 50, VALUES. Therefore the theme for this time period will be about exactly that, VALUES. There is a tendency for respect towards the rule of law with this energy. But even more so, this is the energy for taking care of family, cooking for family, nurturing them, and yes, transmitting our VALUES to them. It is the aura busting energy that compels even the most radical person to wear long sleeves to cover up their tattoos out of respect for their grandmother. 

So you just might find yourself inspired to bake cookies for your loved ones during this time. Whether or not those cookies are delicious may depend on whether or not you have any fixed Tribal Circuitry in your Design. If not and the cookies get burned, that's OK. Your loved ones will appreciate this new nurturing side to you anyway. Even if it does only last six days.

I've been eye balling our new crock pot for about five months. This may be the time to finally try it out. Say a prayer for my husband.        

Transiting - October 14 through October 18, 2017

The SUN is in GATE 32, CONTINUITY, and the EARTH is in GATE 42, FINISHING THINGS.

The Gate of CONTINUITY is the energy for intuitively knowing when an opportunity, dream, or idea has the potential for success. This is not necessarily the energy to initiate and make success happen for yourself. But it IS the energy to evaluate and guide someone else's vision. This is an excellent energy for a venture capitalist for example. 

Again, these transits are hanging out in the spleen lately so there is fear here as well. The fear of failure no less. But sure, it's scary to embark on a new business venture, especially when you know deep down the success is not meant for you. People with this energy often feel compelled to act on their instinct for what will be successful and they inevitably fail because there is no energy to manifest. So, yeah, fear of failure becomes very real.

What is grounding us during this time is the energy for FINISHING THINGS. Hallelujah! So many of us who don't have this energy defined, struggle to finish what we start but this week we have it in spades. So pull out those old, unfinished projects and finish them. Successfully doing so will indeed alleviate that fear of failure and give us the sense of accomplishment we need.

So, we instinctively know what ideas would be successful and we have the energy for FINISHING THINGS. What a wonderful time to collaborate and help each other find success! Get together with your friends and co-workers and brain storm. Allow other people to respond to your ideas and vice versa. Trust their intuitive assessment for your project and enjoy the satisfaction of being invited to share your innately wise assessment of theirs. This is exactly how this energy is meant to thrive.    

Transiting - October 8 through October 13, 2017

The Sun is in GATE 57, INTUITION and the Earth is in GATE 51, SHOCK from Sunday, October 8, through Friday, October 13.

We are highly intuitive this week. There is true clarity to be had. It's really important during this time to trust your intuition. It defies logic. Plus, your BS meter is especially on point due to this intuitive understanding. Listen to what people have to say with your right ear and you will instinctively know the truth of the matter.

I have this gate defined in my chart and I actually find it difficult to understand what people are saying to me at all with my left ear. I have to position myself so that people are on my right side or I spend the entire time asking them to repeat themselves. It's like my body is forcing me to use my right ear and tune into my intuition. And it's true, I simply know when someone is not in alignment with their integrity and I must not have a poker face, because often they know I know. Awkward.

The other side of this coin is the fear of the future. Because intuition works in the now and our powers of perception do not extend to the future. The future can feel scary. Just keep in mind, if we can just trust what our intuition is telling us now and follow our authority, there's no reason to fear the future. The future will work itself out. 

What is grounding us during these six days is the GATE of SHOCK. This is a competitive energy that thrives on shocking events and behavior. It is also an energy that draws shocking experiences to us to trigger personal growth. This is the Gate of the Shaman who must be tested to find enlightenment. Maybe we need a little shock treatment this week to bring us back down to earth from all that intuitive knowing. 

So during these six days we have the opportunity to use our very powerful, penetrating intuition to react with precision to potentially shocking behavior or events. We have unusually good clarity right now as well, IF we can trust ourselves and each other. Because we are ALL experiencing these gifts together.

If the people around you have intuitive insights, trust them. And if we have to shock someone into understanding our insights or be shocked into understanding someone else's insights, so be it.
